Set against an enclosed rural Cornish landscape, Ritual follows the trail of English police officer, David Hanlin, who is requested to investigate the murder of a local child. During his short stay, he is slowly subjected to a spectacle of psychological trickery, sexual seduction and ancient religious practices.

As he delves deeper into the village’s mysterious way of life he finds himself becoming embroiled and seduced into their bizarre rituals, and starts to feel almost hypnotised by the community. But when another child is murdered he knows he needs to break the spell and find the killer.

Le tengo un cariño inmenso a "Ritual" (1967) de David Pinner porque es el libro en el que he basado mi TFG de Filología Inglesa. He estado estos meses leyéndolo una y otra vez, subrayando y analizando sus personajes, temáticas y elementos narrativos. El motivo de esto es que está conectado con la película "El hombre de mimbre" (1973) más de lo que se vende en los documentales y reportajes sobre la misma.

La historia del sargento David Hanlin en la comunidad Thorn (Cornualles), un pueblo arraigado en celebraciones paganas, sirve de blueprint apartente para el guion que Anthony Shaffer escribiría, por mucho que este afirme que se distanció de la novela enormemente (no voy a daros mucho la tabarra con esto, a quien le interese que me pregunte y le cuento!). Una historia peculiar, única y de esas que no se leen todos los días, con un énfasis enorme …
