In a series of related essays, Murray Bookchin balances his ecological and anarchist vision with the promising opportunities of a "post-scarcity" era. Surpassing Marxist political economy, which was rooted in an era of material scarcity, Bookchin argues that the tools necessary for the self-administration of society have largely been developed and, that, combined with an ecological outlook have greatly altered our revolutionary landscape. Technological advances made during the twentieth century have expanded production greatly, but in the pursuit of corporate profit and at the expense of human need and ecological sustainability. Per molt "clàssics" que hagin pogut ser, els llibres polítics (i per tant de temàtica social) depenen, com a mínim una mica, del context. Que hi ha parts que passen de moda, vaja.

En aquest recull d'articles l'autor realment s'avançava al seu temps i actualitzava el comunisme llibertari a una època en què la tecnologia ja podia proporcionar una bona vida. Té gairebé 60 anys!

No és mala idea, però per desgràcia no prou gent li va fer cas i avui dia llegir les bondats de la tecnologia costa una mica més, perquè aquesta s'ha seguit desenvolupant per les pitjors vies que podria: al servei del capitalisme i de mantenir les condicions de vida en un estat prou deplorable com per dependre dels pitjors elements de la societat per viure-hi. Capitalisme, vaja.

Està bé llegir el llibre i fer l'exercici d'imaginar com podria ser un desenvolupament tecnològic …

La altra cosa que hi ha, i que no està tant passada de moda perquè hi segueix havent leninistes pel món, és el seguit de refutacions a aquesta doctrina del socialisme. Que en bona part hi estic d'acord, però no crec que ningú se'n convenci llegint-los (primer, perquè els leninistes rarament llegeixen fora del seu cercle i segon perquè no atenen a raó :P). És relativament divertit de llegir pensant en que li faré la guitza al col·lega leninista, però això tampoc té molt de recorregut, vaja.

En resum, que la idea estava molt bé: la tecnologia, avui dia, ens assegura supervivència còmode material, minimitzant el treball i per tant obrint la porta a gaudir de la vida. Les aventures marxistes eren degudes a la por, perquè quan ho va escriure la tecnologia no estava encara en aquest punt i era una proposta per intentar assegurar control. Avui dia, és irrellevant.

Visionari, però no hi vaig acabar de connectar perquè és un llibre del passat.

This book is mostly concerned with the idea that technology CAN produce a post-scarcity society, but if you're expecting a clear picture of what that looks like or what it entails, you're going to be disappointed. I read the third edition which included "Listen, Marxist!" which includes a very valuable anarchist reading of the October Revolution and how power was consolidated.

When Bookchin is rattling off all of the things his enlightened anarchist society can cast off, a lot of it is feminine. It doesn't invalidate the book but it does highlight some of his limitations as a social thinker.

I grabbed this off The Anarchist Library and fixed all of the OCR errors that were made in its production as I read through so if you're looking for a nice digital edition, I can recommend it.
